The Great Gatsby (F. Scott Fitzgerald) BOOK REVIEW

Ahoy!

This was a book club read and it did not go well.

In a Nutshell:
Rich dude goes to parties and makes un-intellectual conversation. Rollicking.

The Actual Review:
Seeing as this book is supposedly one to capture the spirit of the roaring twenties, this made it seem more like a miaow to me. And I'm currently studying 1920s America and well, someone's lying.

The characters were vacuous and made conversation which
truly reflected themselves. You may as well just read a transcript of my conversations with friends. It'd be cheaper and it wouldn't actually be nonsensical. Honestly, I stopped reading at 30% despite being implored to get to the good bits. I'm sorry.

I was never entirely sure who was talking or what was happening. It's a DNF for now. And for the foreseeable future. And for after.

Rating:
/5

In Conclusion:
▫️ Dull
▫️ Confusing
▫️ I'll try again some day. I do want to like it.

  1. Sorry you didn't care for this one. I enjoyed it, but the beginning is a bit difficult to get through.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, I guess it doesn't work for everyone :)

  2. I love this book! I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it though. It really does pick up. The beginning is hard to get through, but the rest of it is wonderful, especially as you learn more about Gatsby. If you haven't yet, give the movie with Leo a go. It's pretty true to the book.
