Blogging Break!

11:43 Unknown 6 Comments

Ahoy!

So, I am currently three months into the worst reading slump I have ever been in and I'm really unhappy with the quality of my blog at the moment. I'll postpone all posts until the 19th March.

Sorry.

17:00 Unknown 6 Comments

*Cough, sniffle, wheeze*

Ahoy!

As I'm typing this I am suffering from a case of (Wo)man flu which has of course resulted in a week of presenteeism that has carried into blogging. Alas, here I go!
So, many months ago Marianne from DontBurstMyBubble nominated me for the Encouraging Thunder Award. Marianne, I am very sorry for putting off doing this for so long, thank you so much for nominating me!

The Rules:

⚫️ Add the logo
⚫️ Post it on your blog
⚫️ Nominate 3-5 other bloggers
⚫️ Thank the person who nominated you
⚫️ Mention your purpose in blogging

Why do I blog?
I'm not really sure if I am honest, one thing I am certain about is that I want my blog to be about books and having a good time (originally, I typed 'about books having a good time - I can't imagine how that would go down); I don't know why I started though. Like many, I was in a not-so-good state when I signed up and it just went from there!

My nominations:

⚫️ Diary of a Lonely Girl
⚫️ Girl Abroad
⚫️ The Journeys of a Girl

Why do you blog?

Only We Know (Simon Packham) BOOK REVIEW

17:00 Unknown 6 Comments

Ahoy!

In a Nutshell:
What is the secret of Lauren's past? Lauren and her sister have to move school because of what Lauren did.

The Actual Review:

It got off to a sluggish start - which I think was mainly to do with the rather blunt delivery - but the story soon picked up! Packham forms an air of mystery and keeps you guessing what Lauren's secret is until the very end (although when you discover it, you'll wonder how you ever missed it).

The setting and world building is definitely worth five stars as it is probably the most believable world a book has ever taken me to! With detailed description of places Packham has created combined with shops and places we all know, you won't be left wondering!

The only problem that I really found was that there is a trichotillomania joke which was quite upsetting: someone ripping hair out is not trying to impersonate a trichster. Period.

In Conclusion:
⚫️ Wonderful world building
⚫️ Blunt style of writing
⚫️ Keeps you on the edge of your seat

Rating:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Booklover's Guide to Travelling

17:00 Unknown 20 Comments

Ahoy!

Believe it or not, us bookish people know that there is a world outside of our pages and sometimes, just sometimes, we dare to venture into it. After reading this guide, you will be able to venture into the world, GO FORTH, MY FRIEND!

1) If you can't read in motorised vehicles (I sound very old there) then you need audiobooks! You can get them for free on YouTube and hundreds of apps offer free services or you could go for Audible which I believe gives you a 30 day free trial.

Please don't do this!!

2) If you are going long-haul, pack at least two or three books in your hand luggage. There is nothing worse than being stuck with a bad book for 16 hours.

3) If you are taking an ereader, be sure to pack a charged and make sure it is fully charged before embarking on your adventure.

4) Plastic protective covers (like the ones the library uses). These are an investment you should make: when travelling, books will get bashed and smashed and these covers reduce damage and stress!

5) Don't pack too many! They will weigh you down and make waste of your luggage allowance.

6) On planes, before take-off, take your books from the overhead compartment and put them in the pocket in front of you before to save you from disturbing your neighbour
(especially is you are say next to the window).

7) If you are travelling with young children, pack loads of books or download some before travelling (there are thousands of free ones online). Make SURE that you have packed their favourite (No one likes to see an unhappy toddler!).
