The Booklover's Guide to Travelling

17:00 Unknown 20 Comments

Ahoy!

Believe it or not, us bookish people know that there is a world outside of our pages and sometimes, just sometimes, we dare to venture into it. After reading this guide, you will be able to venture into the world, GO FORTH, MY FRIEND!

1) If you can't read in motorised vehicles (I sound very old there) then you need audiobooks! You can get them for free on YouTube and hundreds of apps offer free services or you could go for Audible which I believe gives you a 30 day free trial.

Please don't do this!!

2) If you are going long-haul, pack at least two or three books in your hand luggage. There is nothing worse than being stuck with a bad book for 16 hours.

3) If you are taking an ereader, be sure to pack a charged and make sure it is fully charged before embarking on your adventure.

4) Plastic protective covers (like the ones the library uses). These are an investment you should make: when travelling, books will get bashed and smashed and these covers reduce damage and stress!

5) Don't pack too many! They will weigh you down and make waste of your luggage allowance.

6) On planes, before take-off, take your books from the overhead compartment and put them in the pocket in front of you before to save you from disturbing your neighbour
(especially is you are say next to the window).

7) If you are travelling with young children, pack loads of books or download some before travelling (there are thousands of free ones online). Make SURE that you have packed their favourite (No one likes to see an unhappy toddler!).

  1. I agree with all of these except #5. And that's only because I can't help myself lol! It is a good tip (like the rest of these as well) but I always have to bring at least 5 books. Because I am weird lol.

  2. These are great tips!

I actually agree with not packing too many. If you don't pack too many books, you'll have more space for the new books you'll by during the trip! At least, I know I'll buy new books while on a trip, because anywhere in the world the books are less expensive than here in Ecuador haha.

I prefer to travel with my Kindle, though. It saves the stress of getting a physical book damaged...

    1. I couldn't trust myself with a Kindle: I'd probably break it!

  3. Nothing is better than a good week away to just consume a large proportion of your shelved books - I've already started building up a collection for next year's holiday! :P I like to have two or three paper-books to take with me for beach reading (sometimes the sun is too glaring for my kindle to cope well) and then stock up for travel and indoor-reading on my kindle.

Such good tips, will definitely have to read over this as a mini-checklist before every excursion!
